Girls & Boys Soccer

APRD Youth Soccer Participants & Parents,

We regret to inform you that Due to the delay in “phase” advancement for reopening the State of Washington in the midst of the COVID19 Pandemic. We are going to have to cancel our annual Youth Soccer League for the 2020 season. Under the current restrictions for gatherings of people we do see a way for kids to be able to practice and play games under normal season structure.

We are currently working on a way for small groups of kids and a coach (limit of 5 total) to get together and practice skills. Basically, if you are a parent or coach and want to get 4 kids together to practice soccer skills this Fall, sign up for one of our Training Cubes.

How the Training Cubes work.

  • Coach/Parent gets together 4 kids to make up their cube.

  • Coach/Parent contact APRD to schedule a practice time and location.

  • Training Cubes can start practicing in late August running through October.

  • Cubes cost $80 (or is $20 per player) and includes, customized masks/buffs for participants and coach to keep. Each coach will get to borrow soccer balls and cones for training.

Coaches or parents please CLICK HERE if you want to sign-up for the training cubes.

This is a recreational program where rules and field size are modified to increase learning of the game and maximize success. Both the city and the county league soccer program is designed to provide youth a chance to play recreational soccer. The program is an opportunity to improve skills in the game of soccer. The program emphasis is on teaching soccer skills, team work and initiating life style changes through activities that challenge both the body and mind. The leagues are available for boys and girls.

City League

Same as last year, we are offering a City league U-12 Boys and Girls division. This is for those 10 and 11 year-olds not wanting to play with the county league. This division will practice and play all games within Anacortes.

City League is coordinated “in-house” by APRD and all teams will practice and play game in Anacortes. Teams playing in the County League are participating in a league facilitated by the Skagit Valley Youth Soccer Association. This is still a recreational league and our teams will practice and play home games in Anacortes. However, may travel to the following communities to play away games; Burlington, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, San Juan Island, LaConner, and/or Conway.

Registration for the Fall soccer league takes place in early May. View the online registration page. The league starts in late August with practices and then games usually start the Saturday after Labor Day weekend in September. Practices for most teams are a twice per week (times are chosen by coaches) and usually last an hour in duration (County league teams may practice a little longer)

The fee includes a team shirt/jersey only, participants are responsible for providing their own shorts, socks, cleats, and shin guards. (baseball or football cleats are not allowed). Shin guards are mandatory.

Age Divisions

The U-12 and younger age divisions play on modified fields and with fewer players on the field. The basic principle is the younger the age the smaller the field and the fewer the players on a field the field at a time. These modifications to the rules allows more kids to touch the ball more often thus increasing their experience. U-13 and older age divisions play on a full-size field with 11 players on the field at a time. If you would like to know more about rules and specifics with the league please contact our office at 293-1918.

Volunteer Coaches

Volunteer coaches are always needed. If you are interested in coaching we can give you tools and resources to coach. Coaches must fill out a volunteer application form and pass a background screening. If you need more information please email Travis (City League) or email Dustin (County League) with any questions you have or to express interest in coaching.
