Join the Anacortes Museum Saturday, January 19 for a free listening event featuring vintage phonograph records and radio shows. Staged as a guided DJ’d event, our ears will time travel to the ‘30s,‘40s, and ‘50s, where we will encounter the popular music, news programs, and stories that captivated Pacific Northwesterners long ago. This event is for kids ages 12 and up, teens, seniors, audiophiles, jazz enthusiasts, and those who love listening to a good story.
DJ and jazz musician Daniel Greenwald, Museum Docent Al Bofenkamp, and Media Curator Kate Clark will share selections of sounds and stories that emerged from people’s home radios: from the devastation of WWII, to the swinging rhythms of race records, the imagined raids of invading Martians and beyond. Listening selections will be played on vintage radios and phonographs restored by Bofenkamp, currently on display at the Anacortes Museum.
The 90 minute program will be presented twice: 3:00 PM matinee and 7:00 PM evening session
The event is free but space is limited, so reservations are required. Please RSVP by emailing coa.museum@cityofanacortes.org or calling (360) 293-1915.
This program is funded with support from the Manieri Endowment through the Anacortes Public Library Jazz and the Anacortes Museum Foundation.
