[ARCHIVED] 2020 Slurry Seal project

Map, schedule

*If your trash pick-up day falls on the day the City is doing Slurry Seal in your area, your trash will be picked up on the following day*

The City of Anacortes Public Works Department continues its annual plan to slurry seal streets with Doolittle Construction LLC of Bellevue working 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, through Saturday, August 1. A handful of streets will be done each day.

However, the schedule is completely weather dependent. Slurry seal is a specialized material that cannot be applied during wet conditions. If rain occurs, the streets scheduled for that day will move to the end of the project time period. This way all other areas will stay on schedule.

Residents and other drivers will NOT have access to and cannot park cars on their street prior to or when the work is being done as well as for a time after the slurry seal application – up to 8 hours.

The map and chart show which streets will be done each day.
Residents will be reminded of the project through additional sandwich boards near the affected streets as the project gets closer.

Slurry Seal is a form of street maintenance that is available to the city for a much lower cost than rehabilitating or rebuilding the road. City staff compares it to painting a home, which prevents damage to the materials from the effects of weather and time.

Slurry seal is an asphalt emulsion mixed with fine sand and gravel spread out on the roadway. 8 hours later (maximum wait time, may be less), it is ready to drive on.

After the sealing, there is typically some residual gravel drivers may hear in their wheel wells. The city will sweep as much as possible to minimize this, including 2 times after the application and again 1 week and 2 weeks later – 4 sweeps in all.

Please help us keep everyone informed by passing the word about this project to your homeowner association, delivery drivers, and contractors expected to be doing work in the area in, and anyone else the road closures may affect.

Anacortes Public Works Engineering acknowledges the inconvenience of this project and asks neighborhood residents and anyone providing services to these areas for their cooperation to minimize the time needed for the work.
